Another Side Of Sides

Today I met some friends for lunch at Palihouse, a boutique hotel in West Hollywood. The restaurant is set up like your living room, if your living room was gigantic and had been decorated in boho chic. The three of us sat in giant armchairs to eat lunch. The salad was greasy and boring. Like they took the greens out of a bag and poured dressing on it, boring. The fruit and the company however were terrific.

What I ate today:

• Say it with me - coffee!
• 3 bananas!
• Brazil nuts, of course!
• Palapa Azul Watermelon Frozen Fruit Bar (Bristol Farms)
• side salad - mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, vinaigrette (Palihouse)
• fruit plate - green apples, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, grapes, strawberries, nectarines (Palihouse)
• iced tea
• green grapes
• salad - romaine, micro greens, cherry tomatoes, avocado w/goddess dressing
• dark chocolate with raisins and pecans
• Trader Joe's Cold Pressed Green Juice - kale, spinach, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger

Walk It Off

I tried this stuff I got in the refrigerator section of Trader Joe's called Balela. It's a chickpea salad, not raw but vegan and really good. Thumbs up.

My plan was to eat dinner after we got home from Bob's basketball practice. At practice I got hit in the face with a ball so I didn't really feel like eating much after that. I just had a green juice and an ice pack. *Cue the violins.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• banana
• cherries
• Brazil nuts
• salad - kale, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, green and red cabbage, micro greens, almonds, cherry tomatoes w/citrus ginger dressing
• Taste of Nature California Almond Bar (Got this out of a weird bag of swag I got at the conference.) vegan not raw
• Balela - chickpeas, tomatoes, oil, vinegar, black beans, onions, parsley mint, salt, garlic, black pepper, cayenne - (Trader Joe's) vegan not raw
• Trader Joe's Cold Pressed Green Juice - kale, spinach, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger
• 2 Advils

I Vlogged, Yes I DId

Today I tried something new while I was trying something new. I tried the new-to-me Trader Joe's Cold Pressed Yellow Juice and while I was trying it, I recorded it, for your viewing pleasure. (Hopefully.)

I have always been the teensiest bit annoyed by people who say they, "forget to eat." Eating is one of the few things I can count on to always remember. Today was weird though. I didn't "forget" to eat, I just wasn't all that hungry so my list is a bit on the small side today. It happens.

What I ate today:

• coffee, you bet
• Brazil nuts
• cherries
• dried apricots
• cold pressed yellow juice (Trader Joe's)
• green salad - mixed greens, micro greens, tomatoes w/goddess dressing
• Caribbean frozen juice bar (Trader Joe's)

Hotel Breakfast Buffet

This morning, before we checked out of the hotel, we joined some friends at the breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant. I had my default restaurant breakfast: oatmeal.

Then, airplane snacks that we brought. (No peanuts for me this time. I'm over them.)

When we got back home, we walked across the street to the Sunday night music in the park thing they do here in summer. Mr. Rosenberg picked up stuff for us at Bristol Farms. There *may* have been a few vegan cookies involved in that picnic.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• hotel green juice - spinach, orange
• oatmeal w/ slivered almonds
• mixed fruit - cantaloupe, honeydew melon, pineapple
• banana
• almonds

Side and Sides

Conference food, you guys. It's not bad at all considering they're trying to feed thousands of people, but, as predicted, there's not so much for me. Breakfast was fruit from the breakfast buffet, lunch started to be a dry side salad until I snuck out with a friend and went to the hotel restaurant for lunch.

The lunch soup was good, but I didn't really eat much of the hummus plate. The hotel hummus tasted like the inside of a cab.

Had a few snacks back in the room that we brought with us.

Dinner was late night room service. As it should be.

What I ate today:

• coffee, and plenty of it
• 2 bananas
• mixed fruit - pineapple, cantaloupe, honey dew
• side salad - ice berg lettuce, carrots, olives
• corn soup
• crudite
• olives
• Brazil nuts
• veggie burger
• mixed fruit

Cats and Apples

Did not take a photo today of anything pertinent so here are cats with apples.

I'm usually not a big fan of coconut water. Sometimes the kind with pineapple juice is okay if there's nothing else around like, you know, actual water. Today I tried the new Trader Joe's coconut water in the little squatty bottle. It doesn't have a strong taste or an after-taste. I like it.

It was ninety-whatever degrees here today, so I had a couple of popsicles. These weren't my usual brand of fruit/veg bars with no sugar or sweetener. These I got at Trader Joe's and I was fine with a little cold sugar today because of the whole ninety-whatevs degrees thing and they were here.

Tonight I made a gigantic salad to share with Mr. Rosenberg. By the time he got home, I had eaten the whole thing. I actually got a stomach ache from overeating LETTUCE. Lame.

We're  back on the road again. This time to Northern California for a conference. I think there will be many fruit plates and side salads in my future.

What I ate today:

• banana banana banana
• coffee coffee coffee
• Brazil nuts
• apple
• coconut water (Trader Joe's)
• Carribean Fruit Floes frozen fruit bar (Trader Joe's)
• dark chocolate w/pecans and raisins (Trader Joe's)
• Trader Joes' Vegetable Tray - snap peas, carrots, cherry tomatoes, jicama

Back To Raw

So excited to have a green juice today. Wish I could get this excited about all of the laundry I have to do from the trip.

Glad to get back to raw. Eating too much cooked vegan stuff makes me feel a little bit crayon-ed outside the lines. Oh and the dark chocolate. That was good too.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• dried Smyrna figs
• pine nuts
• cashew Lara Bar
• green juice - kale, apple, spinach, lemon, ginger
• Brazil nuts
• Trader Joe's Vegetable Tray - jicama, cherry tomatoes, carrots, snap peas
• Dark chocolate w/pecans and raisins (Trader Joe's)

Flight Pattern

Today we flew from Ft. Lauderdale, then to Kansas City, then to Las Vegas, changed planes and flew to Burbank. Door to door this was about an eight hour endeavor. We went to the grocery store last night and packed our own snacks for the flight since all they give you on Southwest are SIM card-sized packages of peanuts.

Once we got home to our empty refrigerator, we ordered Thai food. We're back.

• 2 banans
• coffee
• red grapes
• trail mix - almonds, walnuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, raisins
• raw cashews
• apples
• carrots
• apple juice

Side Salad Burn Out And A Life Saving Taco

Today we had lunch with family at a restaurant that offered a dried out side of steamed vegetables, but an okay dinner salad.

By 6:00pm I had dinner salad burn-out. I needed something more substantial. I searched online and found a place that had vegan items and things that Bob would like too. We drove quite awhile to get there and then found that it wasn't open. We then went to a Vietnamese place that had been recommended to us and there was a wait. Jeff was off trying to find a parking spot while Bob and I waited for a table. As we sat there, Bob quizzed me on the menu and then let me know that he wasn't interested in anything they had. I texted Jeff, who was still looking for a place to park, that Bob and I had changed our minds and he could find us at the taco bar across the street.

I was relieved to find that J.J.'s Tacos had a vegetarian taco. I got it without the cheese. They also had terrific guacamole and okay beans and rice. Saved.

What I ate today:

• banana
• coffee
• clementine
• trail mix - almonds, raisins, dried cranberries, pistachios, dried cherries
• side steamed vegetables - carrots, broccoli, yellow peppers (Bonefish Grill)
• side salad - romaine, pumpkin seeds, cherry tomatoes, Kalamata olives w/viniagrette (Bonefish Grill)
• vegetarian taco - mushroom, asparagus, corn, onions sprouts, cilantro (JJs Tacos)
• guacamole and yes, chips (JJs Tacos)
• salsa (JJs Tacos)
• beans and rice (JJs Tacos)

Sides and sides

I did not take the picture above. The photo I took tonight of a lone baked potato on a plate was dark and blurry and sad. So I found this on the internet. Just in case you don't know what a baked potato looks like, I guess.

At dinner we went with the family to a seafood restaurant. I got the dinner salad without the cheese, a side of grilled vegetables, and a plain baked potato. "So... no entree?" said our waitress as she mentally subtracted tip-able dollars off of the bill total. I'm a check average wrecker.

What I ate today:

• 3 bananas
• Brazil nuts
• Suja Cayenne Lemon Water (Whole Foods)
• Rhythm Super Foods Kale Chips - Texas BBQ Flavor (Whole Foods)
• green salad - mixed lettuce, olive oil, Himalayan pink salt
• cacao/goji power snacks (Whole Foods)
• clementine
• side salad w. citrus viniagrette
• plain baked potato
• grilled vegetables - yellow squash, zucchini, portobello mushroom, eggplant, red pepper, yellow pepper, onion

The World's Weirdest Restaurant, Probably

Florida. The place we went for lunch did have a quinoa burger on the menu but the burger was held together by cheese, so I just ate some of Bob's fries and made a green salad when we got back to the hotel. I was using the little grinder top on the pink salt and accidentally pulled the whole top off and half the un-ground pink salt came pouring out on the salad. So I made two salads, but ate one. Good stuff.

Okay. Dinner. We went to the vegan restaurant here in Ft. Lauderdale. First, using Google Maps to get there, we ended up at a fast-food Mexican restaurant called "Lime" with a picture of a lime as part of the logo. We assumed, of course, that Google Maps had taken us to the wrong place, until we noticed that half a block away was the restaurant we were looking for, "Sublime," with a picture of a lime as part of the logo. They did not appear to be affiliated. So, that.

Sublime is a cavernous building, reminiscent of restaurants in a Vegas casino or a gentleman's club. (Trust me.) There was loud music playing outside the restaurant but there did not seem to be any playing inside. The windows were covered in waterfalls and there was a large flat screen over the bar featuring famous works of art that changed every five seconds. One whole side of the dining room was covered in mirrors. The decor was 80s fancy but appeared to be all brand new. It was much darker inside than outside. Most of the clientele were seated in large parties of six or more.

The items on the menu were a reminder that "vegan" is not synonymous with "healthy." A small plate of corn meal /basil triangles was brought to the table first. These tasted like cornmeal and basil. And, yeah.

Knowing that the next few days would likely be meals of dinner salads, I ordered vegan not raw.

We asked about the most popular dishes and ordered accordingly. First we had the "frito misto" which was cauliflower florets, deep fried, covered with orange chicken style sauce and molded into a tower. We also got the soft pretzels, these were puffy pretzel sticks accompanied with hummus and an onion dip. Our entrees were mac and cheese for Bob, this was molten hot to the point of being inedible for ten minutes, Jeff got the raw thing on the menu, a zucchini noodle thing that tasted like asian cole slaw, and I got tacos that were deep fried sticks of tofu in tortillas with salsa and cabbage, served with black beans and jasmine rice. These were good, like fried fish tacos except with rectangles of pale, flabby tofu standing in for the fish.

Between dinner and dessert, our server brought over two dinner napkins folded into large triangles and ceremoniously draped them across the table at right angles. Then she carefully set down spoons and forks laid at specific lines along the edges of the napkins in a pattern. I will totally be doing that at home from now on because napkin art.

Dessert was fantastic. The guys shared an ice cream sundae and I had a life changing piece of coconut cake and coffee. Of course coffee.

I was uncomfortably full by the time we rolled out of there. I would not be surprised if we drove by there again today only to see that the restaurant had vanished, as if it was never there and we had dreamed the whole thing.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• banana
• Brazil nuts (What can I say? I'm a creature of habit.)
• cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes
• Blue Print Juice - kale, apple, lemon (Whole Foods)
• fries (Burgerfi)
• green salad - spring mix, avocado, olive oil, Himalayan pink salt
• cormeal/basil triangle (Sublime)
• sweet and sour fried cauliflower (Sublime)
• fried tofu taco (Sublime)
• coconut cake (Sublime)

Travel Day

On the road (plane road) to Florida today. I brought some airplane snacks from home. When we got in to Ft. Lauderdale we met family at a Greek restaurant. Our room at the hotel has a small kitchen so we made a pilgrimage to Whole Foods where I tried not to buy the whole store. Succeeded. Somewhat.

Stuff I bought on the Whole Foods haul:

2 different kinds of kale chips
some "energy bites" that are little brown squares mad of maca and goji and other stuff
2 avocados
bunch of bananas
salad greens
olive oil
pink salt
cut fresh fruit
2 pressed juices

What I ate today:

• coffee (including airport Starbucks coffee)
• 2 bananas
• Brazil nuts
• apple juice
• apples
• Trader Joe's Apple Banana Bar
• green salad - romaine, tomatoes, onions, dill (Greek place)
• sauteed green beans, tomatoes, peas, onions (Greek place)

That Time We Went To MAKE For The First Time

We're getting on a plane on Thursday for Florida. I hit Trader Joe's today to find some snacks to eat on the plane. I've seen the Chickenless Salad at Trader Joe's forever. It's vegan and I'm pretty sure it's made with textured vegetable protein (TVP) so obviously not raw, but vegan and worth a try. I bought a couple of them for the trip and tried one out today and OH DEAR LORD IT WAS NOT GOOD. Like, spit-it-into-a-napkin not good. It tastes like what most people are afraid that all vegan food tastes like, but so doesn't.

I'm not packing much in the way of food, this time. I've heard there's a Whole Foods near where we are staying so as long as I bring an unlimited line of credit, I will be fine.

Today Mr. Rosenberg and I are celebrating our nine year anniversary. We went to a raw vegan restaurant in Santa Monica called MAKE. Like going to Rawvolution, it is exciting to go someplace where I can eat any and everything on the menu. At MAKE, the food is very fancy-pants-beautiful and so very, very excellent. We got things off of the prix fixe menu. I will give the descriptions  below. We split everything. That was the difficult part because I really wanted it all to myself but, you know, marriage and anniversary and everything. If all raw food was prepared this way, more people would eat it and be on board with this lifestyle instead of trying to talk me out of it. Just a thought.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• 2 bananas
• Brazil nuts
• green juice - Fresh N Easy Veggie Blend Primary Greens with Apple and Lemon - celery, apple, cucumber, spinach, romaine, kale lime, lemon, parsley, wheat grass, clover sprout (Fresh N Easy)
• green salad - spring mix lettuce, baby kale, Lick Dill Cashew Spread
• veggie burger patty - vegan not raw (Trader Joe's)
• plantlab cheeses, fennel crackers, pickles, mustard - These "cheeses" were actually cheese like and the "pickles" were pickled peach, strawberry, and celery. I would liked to have licked the plate they came on. (MAKE)
• kimchee dumplings, ginger foam coriander - These are tiny and delicious. (MAKE)
• pistachio guacamole, pickled chili, jicama - These were  eentsy little guacamole "tacos" served in a thin slice of jicama and topped with a green chili. I would like to eat these every day. (MAKE)
• black pepper kelp noodles, snap peas, dehydrated olives, pea vines - These creamy noodles were
fan-amazing-tastic. I would like them to move in with me. (MAKE)
• heirlom tomato lasagne - Santa Barbara pistachio, macadamia ricotta. Nothing is better than real lasagne, except this raw lasagne. It is fresh and lasagne-y with an excellent sauce. (MAKE)
• pineapple cheesecake with coconut, strawberry - This was like a rich panna cotta with fruit and I will have dreams about it, if I'm lucky. (MAKE)
• banana split - three different types of ice cream, I don't know the flavors but they were sort of vanilla, butterscotch, and chocolate-like with dehydrated banana pieces separating the ice cream quenelles. I couldn't pick a favorite ice cream because they were all that good. (MAKE)

That Famous Almond Latte Again

I had another one of those famous iced almond lattes today from Go Get Em Tiger.

The NY Times says of this latte, "... it is exquisite: one of the best iced coffees in the United States, and almost certainly the best latte. Fresh almond-macadamia milk, made in-house, is shaken over ice with espresso, then strained into a chilled Mason jar filled with ice from a Kold-Draft ice maker, an expensive machine you find in cocktail bars. The drink is so carefully formulated and fastidiously made that it tastes more like a cocktail-dessert hybrid than a coffee on ice."

Yep. They're good, all right.

We're leaving town for a bit so I emptied all of the vegetables out of the fridge and into a pot, curried it up, and called it dinner.

What I ate today:

• 2 bananas
• coffee
• dried Smyrna figs
• Brazil nuts
• green grapes
• Trader Joe's Cold Pressed Juice "Green" - kale, spimach, apple, cucumber, celery, lemon, ginger
• almond iced latte (Go Get Em Tiger)
• vegetable curry - onions, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, cauliflower, corn, curly kale, peas, tomatoes w/jasmine rice

Red

Today I saw this new-to-me cold pressed juice at Trader Joe's. I only got a couple of bottles because they were each three million dollars. I had the "Red" first. Once again, I was reminded that any time you put beet juice in anything, no matter what else you add to it, all you will taste is beet juice. It was okay, but I don't think I'll be buying anymore Red in the near future. I'll give the "Green" a try tomorrow.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• banana
• apricots fresh and dried
• cashews and Brazil nuts
• Trader Joe's Cold Pressed Juice: Red - beet, cucumber, celery, apple, carrots, spinach, ginger
• Southwest Chicken Salad without the chicken - avocado, romaine, tomato, green pepper, onion, salsa dressing
• iced tea
• green salad w/ baby kale, mixed greens, tomatoes, pine nuts w/goddess dressing
• blanched brussel sprouts w/pink Himalayan salt
• piece of dark chocolate

Sunday Stuff

I think I might be considered a regular at Cafe Gratitude now. At least I'm a little more comfortable with ordering things by their new age-y adjective names. My current favorite meal is the Liberated, a raw vegan pasta, and of course, the Awakening, that vegan key lime pie that I can't get enough of.

We had lunch pretty late, so dinner was some blanched green beans that came in the organic box this week.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• banana
• apples w/almond butter
• red grapes
• raw Manzanilla olives
• 1/2 raw wrap - avocado, Lick red pepper cashew spread, greens, tomato, WrawP (Remember those?)

Al Fresco

Tonight we ate at a local restaurant, Mike & Anne's. Gorgeous night, perfect weather for sitting on the outdoor patio. There was very little on the menu to choose from in the raw and/or vegan categories. I went for a side of the grilled cauliflower, a small green salad, and I had one of the heirloom tomato, avocado, pickled onion things that Jeff ordered. (It was supposed to have some kind of cheese on it, but he got it without.) The cauliflower was my favorite.

What I ate today:

• banana
• coffee
• plums
• Rainier cherries
• green drink - kale, spinach, and other things (Grassroots)
• mixed olives w/Marcona almonds (Mike & Anne's)

Coffee and Plums and Kale, Oh My

I was running around doing stuff in the morning and I ate a giantoid lunch in a between-lunch-and-dinner time so I wasn't hungry for dinner. I know. Fascinating. But there it is. And can we talk about those plums? 'Tis the season. Go get you some.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• banana
• 2 plums
• Raw Bowl - that one I like with kale and cashew creme and pickled cabbage and lots of stuff in it (Kind Kreme)

Book Club Night

I am currently a part of two terrific book clubs. Tonight one of the clubs met at my house. As usual, I was still finishing the book right up to the last possible minute until the doorbell rang.

There were a lot of snacks. For the most part, I put out things I could eat, with one exception. Little kale/spinach/parmesan ball thingies that I got in the freezer section of Trader Joe's. They were popular. If I was going to serve something I couldn't eat, why still go kale? Habit, I guess.

What I ate today:

• COFFEE
• banana, figs, cantaloupe
• air-popped popcorn with olive oil and sea salt (Trader Joe's)
• Bragg's apple cider vinegar and honey drink (Bristol Farms)
• green salad - mixed lettuces, artichoke hearts, almonds w/olive oil and lemon

• 1 vegan oatmeal cookie (Trader Joe's)

Purse Food

Figs

Have you had unsulphered dried apricots? They aren't pretty like the sulphered kind, they are a rotten looking brown but they are pretty wonderful. Really have to be careful though - it would be so easy to eat too many of those and then, you know, bad news.

I was out this afternoon, hungry, and hanging out in a waiting room and luckily found a mostly smashed Trader Joe's bar in my bag.

What I ate today:

• 2 bananas
• 2 much coffee
• handful of unsulphured dried apricots
• green juice - kale, spinach, apple (Grassroots)
• Trader Joe's Apple Mango Bar
• green salad - romaine, tomatoes, corn, avocado, pine nuts w/goddess dressing
• cantaloupe

Again With The Gratitude

Today I went to breakfast with my friend Elizabeth at Cafe Gratitude. (It's a Cafe Gratitude kind of week which is, of course, fine by me.) I ordered "The Fantastic" - a raw crepe. It was chewy and not crepe-like but still lived up to it's name. I also had "The Complete" juice and, of course, coffee. Which at Cafe Gratitude is called "The Courageous." (For me, the real courageous would be going without coffee. Not gonna happen.)

I went to the coffee shop with Bob for lunch and got my usual chicken salad, no chicken add avocado.

After last night's burnt dinner disaster, I tried to redeem myself with a new curry. It turned out very not burnt. However, I ate it while it was much too hot and burned the hell out of the roof of my mouth, proving that I really can't handle cooked food.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• "The Fantastic" - Cashew crepe, fresh fruit, coconut yogurt, maple syrup, pecans (Cafe Gratitude)
• "The Complete" - kale, pineapple, cucumber, lemon, celery, turmeric (Cafe Gratitude)
• Napa Chicken Salad Without Chicken - romaine, red grapes, almonds, raisins, almonds, avocado, citrus vinaigrette
• iced tea
• banana
• curry - potato, cauliflower, peas, mushrooms, zucchini w/brown rice

Maybe Not

I found some sprouted chips in my kitchen today, purchased by Mr. Rosenberg. They are vegan, not raw but are made from sprouted flax, chia seed, quinoa, radish seed, brown rice, and broccoli seed. So - healthy enough. I really just wanted a way to get some salsa into my mouth besides a spoon. These worked.

Later, I spent a good deal of time cutting up vegetables for one of my clean-out-the-fridge curries. I let it simmer and it was smelling great when I lifted the lid to check on it, the smell was actually the vegetables all burned onto the bottom of the pan. I called the vegan Thai place and placed an order to go.

What I ate today:

• coffee
• 3 plums
• pear
• Way Better Snacks Multi-Grain Vegan Chips (Bristol Farms)
• salsa
• Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar All Natural Drink (Bristol Farms)
• vegan pad-Thai
• sauteed string beans w/tofu, brown rice
• mango sticky rice
• Thai tea

Movie In the Park

We went to Lemonade for lunch. I got the three salad thing. There was quinoa and apple deal that I was not into, a kale and mushroom that was pretty good, and my favorite cauliflower and raisins and almonds situation. I was part of the way through the cauliflower when I found out that it's not vegan. I finished it anyway. *gasp*

We went to a movie in the park tonight (E.T.). There were food trucks there and I stood in line for 40 minutes to get rice with grilled vegetables and by the time I got to the front of the line, I saw that this wasn't available. Because I had already invested so much line-time, I felt compelled to get dinner from this particular truck ("Me So Hungry") anyway. I ordered the Portobello "burger," Just Portobello mushrooms done up like a burger. Certainly not raw and there was even some non-vegan stuff in there (Garlic aioli and possibly some type of cheese - it was hard to tell exactly what was in there.) I stuck to my plan of eating the best I can in the situation. It was good. And, of course, E.T. made me cry.

What I ate today:

• 2 bananas
• Brazil nuts (I'm in a Brazil nut phase.)
• coffee
• kale salad, quinoa, cauliflower (Lemonade)
• iced tea
• Trader Joe's Apple Mango Bar
• Portobello "burger" (Me So Hungry Truck)

Full On The Fourth

I couldn't even fit it all in the picture.

Today was fourth of July and we squeezed a lot into our Independence Day. In the afternoon (after the parade but before the fireworks) we went to Amy and Dan's for a party. The spread was fantastic. Amy is an excellent cook and was super great and made a lot of things I can eat - so I did. And plenty of it. And then seconds on top of that. My favorite thing was the watermelon gazpacho. (When I get the recipe I will share it with you.) Man, it's good. Those grilled Portobellos were mighty fine too. Oh, it was just all wonderful.

What I ate today:

• 3 bananas (I'm on a roll)
• Brazil nuts
• 2 figs
• Evolution Fresh Organic Spicy Lemonade (Fresh N Easy)
• carrots
• cherry tomatoes
• Trader Joe's Apple Banana Fruit Bar
• watermelon gazpacho

And More With The Gratitude

Bob and I were on the westside again today for another appointment and somehow we happened to find ourselves at Cafe Gratitude. (Imagine that.) I had a raw lasagne called The Fabulous, and it was. I also had a very sour green drink with lots of stuff in it. Last, I had what might actually be my favorite food of the moment - "The Awakening," also known as vegan key lime pie. There is nothing wrong with it.

We ate dinner quickly on the way to Bob's basketball practice. Another chicken salad, hold the chicken back at the coffee shop by our house.

What I ate today:

• 2 bananas
• coffee
• pear
• Brazil nuts
• cherries
• "FABULOUS" Raw Lasagne - squash blossoms, heirloom tomatoes, cilantro pumpkin seed pesto, fresh corn, summer squash noodles, cashew queso fresco, salsa verde, raw cacao mole  (Cafe Gratitude)
• "COMPLETE" green juice - kale, pineapple, celery, cucumber, lemon, turmeric  (Cafe Gratitude)
• AWAKENING Key Lime Pie - creamy avocado-lime custard, cashew coconut meringue, pecan-macadamia date crust  (Cafe Gratitude)
• green salad - romaine, onions, green peppers, avocado, tomatoes, salsa dressing (Shaker's)

Yes, It Was Good

I had a doctor's appointment on the westside this afternoon. Bob and I had just enough time to stop at Native Foods Cafe in Culver City for lunch. Native Foods bills itself as a vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free restaurant. I got the raw thing on the menu, a salad with some stuff in it. The dressing was really good. Not so hungry at dinner time. Maybe it was that B-12 shot I got?

What I ate today:

• 2 bananas
• nectarine
• coffee
• Brazil nuts
• OC Raw Chopper - mixed greens, zucchini, yellow squash, carrots, cauliflower, salsa, avocado, almonds, beets, sprouts w/lemon-garlic oil dressing (Native Foods Cafe)
• 1/2 avocado
• Palapa Azul Yellow Frozen Fruit/Veg Bar
